Senior Living Gives Seniors and Adult Children Peace of Mind

By Senior Living

Children — even adult children — turn to their parents for support. They see their parents as caregivers, and it’s often a surprise when the roles become reversed. Seemingly out of the blue, sons and daughters notice their parents slowing down. They may even worry about their parents living in a house by themselves. Senior parents, though, almost always want to maintain their independence. Senior living is a smart solution to satisfy both parties.

Dementia May Cause Problems with Money Management Years Before Diagnosis

By Health & Wellness

People with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias may start having trouble managing their finances several years before their diagnosis, according to new research supported by the National Institute on Aging. Published online in JAMA Internal Medicine, the study is the first large-scale analysis of people’s ability to manage their money before and after a dementia diagnosis.

Common symptoms of dementia, including memory and cognitive limitations, can lead people with dementia to have trouble handling money and paying bills, so repeated financial mistakes can be an early sign of the disease.

Senior Scams and How to Protect Your Older Loved Ones

By Senior Living

Millions of older adults fall victim to scams each year, losing substantial amounts of money they need for their retirement. In fact, scammers often target seniors in financial scams, because they expect older adults to have significant savings in their bank accounts.

If your senior loved one becomes a victim of fraud, it can leave them in a precarious financial position with little time to recoup crucial funds. This means it’s important to help them identify when a scam has taken place and, if possible, avoid scams before endangering any money. To find out about some of the strongest signs of a senior scam, CLICK HERE.

Debunking the Myths About Senior Falls

By Health & Wellness

More than 25% of seniors experience a fall each year in America. Emergency departments see 3 million seniors for fall-related injuries. While falls are so common they’ve become the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries in adults over age 65, that doesn’t mean they are an inevitable fact of aging. In truth, the belief that falls are simply a natural part of getting older actually puts seniors at a greater risk for falls.

Balance and agility naturally wane in an older adult’s later years. If nothing is done, this decline puts seniors at a greater risk of experiencing an injury-inducing fall, but it doesn’t follow that there’s nothing you can do to prevent a fall from happening. To learn of some basic steps toward fall prevention that can make a senior much safer, CLICK HERE.

The Bayshore on Hilton Head Hosts first Covid-19 Vaccine Clinic

By Senior Living

On 1/4/2021, the first residents at The Bayshore on Hilton Head participated in the first of three Covid-19 Vaccine clinics held on-site at the community. Through a partnership with our local pharmacy, our residents and staff received priority access to the vaccine, leading a strong step forward for our seniors and team members to continue to focus on resident safety during the pandemic.

In December, as the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines received emergency approval for distribution, The Bayshore on Hilton Head partnered closely with our management company, Life Care Services® to prepare for on-site clinic opportunities in which residents and staff can receive both doses of the critical vaccine. This clinic marks the first of the three opportunities to receive doses of the vaccine.

Future clinic dates will align with the necessary dose timing, as indicated by the vaccine manufacturer. We are proud to provide priority access to our residents and look forward to sharing future updates with residents and families on all anticipated clinic dates as they become available.

How to select a senior living community where you can live, love and laugh.

You’ve decided you are going to move to a senior living community. Where do you start? First of all, congratulate yourself if you’ve made that decision before you or your spouse has experienced major health problems. You’ve probably saved your family a lot of stress.

As you’re studying-up on the different types of communities, compare the pros and cons of each to your current preferences and the changes you anticipate in the future, although that is often difficult to predict. Are you (and your spouse) in good health? Were your parents healthy in their retirement years? Are there communities of the type you prefer near where you are living now? Is that important to you, or are you willing to move to a different city, or even state, to find the type of retirement community you are looking for?

To find out what questions to ask senior living facilities so you can narrow down the types of communities you might consider and begin paring the list of available options, CLICK HERE.

Independence, freedom and self-reliance are woven into the fabric of American culture. There are scores of movies, books and songs about the loner who relies on their wits and skills. What are the dangers of seniors living alone? And is moving to a senior living community actually preferable to aging in place? To compare the benefits of senior living versus seniors living alone, and whether it’s possible to still be independent, happy and healthy while securing your future, CLICK HERE.
