The Barnwell tabby ruins is located on the north end of Hilton Head Island. Investigators from the University of South Carolina Beaufort are using Archaeology, archival research, and geological dating analysis to determine when the structure was created, its uses through time, and the role of African and African-American enslaved laborers at this structure. Join us to learn new information gleaned from excavations and archival research, both of which suggest the tabby ruins are older than originally thought, possibly dating to the island’s colonial period occupations. The lecture is presented by Dr. Kimberly Cavanaugh, University of South Carolina – Beaufort.
We will meet in the lobby at 1:30 pm
